On 5th October 2008 touraid welcomes 10 teams to the UK to play in the Tullow Oil Touraid Cup. This is the highlight of the touraid calendar and a unique experience for both the host and travelling teams. This year boys under the age of 13 will spend a week learning about a new culture, experiencing many firsts and making lifelong friends. Differing from other tours, this tournament will see teams compete in fifteens and will be a mix of touring boys and host boys, further forging bonds between the youngsters.
touraid is very pleased to have sponsor Tullow Oil on board as the Principle sponsor of the tournament. Tullow Oil is one of the largest independent oil and gas exploration companies in Europe. The Group has with operations in Africa, Europe, South Asia and South America with headquarters in London and employs over 350 people world-wide. Current production is over 75,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). In 2007 the Group drilled over 100 exploration, appraisal and development wells, which included multi-well campaigns in Ghana and Uganda.
Cobham Rugby Club will be hosting the first day of the tournament on Thursday 9th October and Esher Rugby Club will host the finals on Saturday 11th October. A schedule of matches will be posted nearer the event.
In place are the respective team sponsors and touraid would like to thank all the companies for their wonderful support. A very big thank you to Ashurst who are kindly sponsoring the involvement of the touraid ambassadors. Also confirmed are the following host schools that will be looking after the tourists during their week's stay:
