| Why tour at all?
touraid recognises the value of participation in sport in the development of children throughout the world. For some children, sport itself may provide the vehicle from which they will escape poverty or other disadvantages. For the most part, touring to the UK will be the opportunity to participate in sport and to benefit socially and culturally from that participation which touraid is best able to facilitate.
touraid believes that an essential element of any long-lasting relationship is time spent together engaged in activities which give rise to shared experience. Time spent by tourists with host families provides unique opportunities for friendships to be built and for personal commitment to be developed towards sustaining the relationship.
Tourists will receive the opportunity to leave behind (if only temporarily) the disadvantages of their home or other normal daily circumstances. They will experience travel, a different culture, a sense of a wider world which is interested in them and which has something to offer to them. In themselves, the tours will be designed to maximise immediate opportunity for self-development.
Hosting children will experience new friendships and obtain an insight into the lives and circumstances of others who are less fortunate than themselves and who are culturally different.
Tourists will play at U13 and/or U14 level. This age group is chosen on the basis of its relative maturity and ability to deal with being away from home whilst avoiding so far as possible the potential problems that may come with adolescence.
