Rainbows
Rainbow is a sports and community club that was formed in 1985 by Rudolho Jack, a rugby player who lived in the poverty stricken community located behind the Train Line, in Marabella South Trinidad.
Jack has a passion for rugby and the youth of his community. He wanted to use the sport to offer the youths a more positive way of life, to help in their social and civic development. Crime and poverty have created a challenging environment for the community. Rugby is used by Rainbow to make a positive difference and despite of the obstacles, Rainbow, through rugby, has battled to develop positive role models.
Many of the families subscribe to the Rastafarian faith and all of the boys come from deprived upbringings. Life behind the train line is tough and demoralising and many of the young men of the community do end up in the Juvenile detention centre for criminal related activities
Bringing a team to the UK is seen as a great opportunity for all the community to see that there are opportunities and hope for the future. It is hoped that the positive and culturally images that the Rainbow youths will encounter, may broaden their vision for the search and quest for a better life. The potential positive and life changing impact of the visit to England by the children of Rainbow can not be overstated.
