Rugby is increasing in popularity in Pakistan. Fawzi, the President of the RFF has selected the boys for the tournament from Tehsil Fort Abbass, a rural area of the Southern Punjab where there are many children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Desert Camel Rugby Club is a club based in the area and supports the villagers from rural backgrounds. Development officer Muzzamal Khan Wazeeri of the Punjab Rugby Association and a former Lahore rugby club player, introduced  rugby in and around the Bawalnagar district three years ago. With his help, Rugby was also introduced into the local government school and the sport has become a favourite pastime for the boys and men of this village. The Pakistan Rugby Union and the Punjab Rugby Association under the Punjab District Rugby Development Program assist with the development of rugby and now over 200 boys and men play at  U13 through to U19 and senior men's rugby.
