The boys selected came from the largest slum in Kenya. The work of their coach gives the children a positive influence and role model. A National Newspaper used the boys as an example to the wider community in an article written on their return. The Kenyan Ministry of Education also agreed to take rugby as one of the ball games in all primary schools across the country.
By November 2008 the profile of rugby at U14 level had been raised to such an extent that they had 10 teams competing countrywide (up from 5 the previous year). The tour also generated much interested in the Reigate area with support for snacks, boots and first aid equipment being donated. The host school provided much needed resources for the coach and team and the families are still very much in contact. Reigate Grammar is very keen to host again.
Kit from touraid was sent out to the team in February 2009 with a member of staff from Reigate Grammar who was on a fact finding trip for a Geography Field Trip in 2010. She met up with the Cheetahs coach and hopes to contribute to community projects in Kibera as part of the fieldtrip.
