Desert Camels RFC, Pakistan

Hosted by Hawthorns Prep School, October 2008

The Desert Camels team returned to their rural communities after the tour in 2008 and were welcomed by thousands. Since then, the profile of both the team and rugby has escalated with 12 new teams set up within the surrounding areas. The boys themselves are the coaches, imparting the knowledge they gained during their week with Hawthorns. Their skills and motivation have improved and more and more people are keen to join the club and get involved with rugby: the Desert Camels now have over 400 players of all different abilities, as well as Pakistan's first girls rugby team consisting of 70 players.

This positive attitude to rugby has also had an affect on the behaviour of the players. Muzamil Wazeeri, coach for Desert Camels, recently updated us on their progress and changes that had been made:

'A very positive change can also be observed in the behaviour of the children, now they work harder a study more interestedly'

'They grew their tendency to getting more and more education'

Although the teams still play on desert grounds far away from urban facilities, the tour has given them the motivation to develop their rugby skills and aim for more success.
