Tackling the Wrynose Pass! |
Alex Hind and Josh Corlett have just finished their mammoth challenge to summit the three peaks and cycle the 500 miles in between to raise money for Touraid.
From the word go they have been beset by some of the most atrocious weather conditions imaginable – 90mph winds on the top of Ben Nevis causing many, but not them of course, to turn back. They still managed to be up and down in 4 hours despite having to walk sideways at times to protect themselves from the driving hail! Then it was straight on the road to Oban.
The next three days saw the boys powering through almost non-stop rain for the push down to Arran, then Thornhill and on to Carlisle. Having taken a couple of hours off to catch England’s opening game in the Rugby World Cup and failing to extract any inspiration from the performance, they hit the road for Wasdale Head and the Scafell climb on Sunday.
The following day brought the unwelcome arrival of Hurricane Katia, who managed to derail stage two of The Tour of Britain and tried her best but failed to unsaddle the boys over the Wrynose Pass and Hard Knott Pass, both of which achieve gradients of 1 in 3 at numerous points, and down to Slaidburn in Lancashire.
With incredibly stiff legs the boys set off from Slaidburn to Chester via endless towns and cities which if it weren't for some excellent navigation could have been a disaster. The day went smoothly and it was straight to bed in Chester, ready for the following days 5:30am start!
After a brief breakfast the boys set off for the 70 miles to Snowdon and for the first time the rain held off for almost all of the journey. After a short 'second breakfast' and quick pub lunch they arrived at the base of Snowdon and were straight into their climbing kit and off up the Pyg track. 4 hours later the boys stumbled back down and headed straight for a very long and deserved sleep!
The boys would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support and urge you to donate if you can.
touraid are delighted to report that Josh and Alex raised over £2000.
Finally at the top of snowdon!
