Host Schools/Clubs

What to expect when your club or School is hosting a touring team?

touraid believes that an essential element of any long-lasting relationship is time spent together engaged in activities which give rise to shared experiences. Time spent by tourists with other children provides unique opportunities for friendships to be built and for personal commitment to be developed towards sustaining the relationship.

It is hoped that tourists will have the opportunity to leave behind (if only temporarily) the disadvantages of their home or other normal daily circumstances and that they will experience travel, a different culture, and a sense of a wider world which is interested in them and which has something to offer them. Hosting children will experience new friendships and many children at the hosting school will obtain an insight into the lives and circumstances of others who are less fortunate than themselves and who are culturally different.

touraid exists to assist in the establishment of sustainable relationships between schools and clubs in the UK and organisations around the globe. Your hosting of a team will, we envisage, result in a team staying with your club community and playing against your relevant junior side. We see this relationship as long term and could involve the following:

• A reciprocal tour to the country by a junior or senior team
• A coaching tour by the dads, players or senior members
• Donations of kit, clothing and school supplies
• Fundraising mornings/afternoons by both the junior and senior sections during the season

What touraid does for your club/school?
By supporting touraid your club/school will benefit on many levels;

• Through touraid you can link your club or school with a community around the world which supports disadvantaged children.
• The profile of your club will be enhanced in your local community and in the community and country of the team with which touraid links your club.
touraid will supply your club or school with the touraid emblem which will be instantly recognisable to all guests and members to remind them of the link club/school or NGO with which the club is linked.
• Your sponsors and supporters will enjoy the association and your club/school will get some positive PR from the relationship.
• We can arrange a direct link from the touraid website through to your club website.
• The young members of your club will develop a greater understanding of the world they live in and how they can help others less fortunate.

Prior to the tour, touraid would like to hear from your school or club about the plans which are being made to sustain your relationship with your tourists after they have gone home. touraid will assist you in formulating those plans and can give examples of the ways in which previous tours have led to these enduring links.

Feedback Post Tour
For touraid to continue to improve its service to schools, clubs, parents and touring children, it is important to know what we do right and where we might have gone wrong. Please do take the time to complete the short feedback form and please encourage your children to provide their thoughts as well.

Some of the feedback from people who have been involved in previous touraid tours...

"This tournament has really opened my eyes to what rugby means to me. I had not appreciated quite how lucky we are in England, but also that rugby can provide a real chance for so many children all over the world. I have found the whole experience of meeting, playing against and learning about life in Eastern Europe fantastic." Ryan Clark, 13. Rugby captain at Brandeston Hall Suffolk

"The idea of giving disadvantaged children from across the globe an experience they will never forget through touraid is very exciting!" Philippos Kyriacou - CDO London Irish

"NEC Harlequins are delighted to support touraid. touraid's contribution to rugby and the many families this scheme reaches is remarkable, and Quins are hugely privileged to be a part of it." Nick Hyde - CDO NEC Harlequins
